Empire Chapter
Thoughts of organizing a New York State Chapter of the A.M.C.A. began in September 1973, at the Seneca Lake summer cottage of Charles and Martha Darling. Only one other couple, Lou and Pauline Lichva were present. On June 30th, 1974 members met at the Lichva's home in Schenectady, NY and the club became known as the Empire Chapter. Our official newsletter is named, "Gaslines and Backfires." This newsletter is published quarterly and contains club news, events, and free classified ads for members. Spring and Fall business meetings are each year and mini meetings are held at most chapter meets. Several chapter meets are held each year along with a chapter "Gypsy Road Run". It is with deep sadness that we bring the news of the passing of long-time Empire Chapter member, Rose Harshbarger. Rose & her husband Charlie joined the Empire Chapter in 1975, soon after the Chapter was organized. At the meets during the 1970's, and the 1980's, Rose could frequently be seen riding around the grounds on her Cushman scooter. Also, she always helped out at the registration table at all of our meets. At the Brookfield meets, she soon became known as "the Flyswatter Lady" for her work in reducing the fly population in the area of the registration table. Rose was appointed Social Secretary of the Chapter in 1999, and continued in that capacity until October 2008, when failing health made it difficult for her to continue. Rose is survived by her husband Charlie, sons Charles (Jennifer) and William Harshbarger: grandchildren Keilen, Shawna and Amber.
